Sally Cowal, senior vice president of the American Cancer Society’s Global Cancer Control, keynoted the event sharing with company leaders the global opportunities in joining in the fight.

More than 20 Puerto Rico top executives officers from local companies joined forces at the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel to launch the American Cancer Society CEOs Against Cancer P.R. Chapter, an exclusive and selective initiative uniting company leaders in the fight to prevent cancer and save lives.

Each CEO made a commitment to regularly share ideas that address cancer-fighting solutions within their organization, ensuring that employees facing cancer have access to accurate, up-to-date information to make informed decisions, developing a culture of shared responsibility by creating healthy lifestyles among employees and families, and encouraging them to join the more than 3 million grassroots volunteers nationwide who work to support individuals and families facing cancer.

Roberto García-Rodríguez, CEO-elect of Triple-S Management Corp, became the first chair of the newly created Puerto Rico Chapter. He is a longtime supporter of the fight against cancer and understands that this disease is not only a health issue but also a core business concern that makes an enormous impact on the economy.

“We are pleased that Roberto García-Rodríguez will lead the Puerto Rico chapter. He represents one of the partnerships we have established on for more than 19 years. Triple-S has always looked out for the health and well-being of Puerto Rico,” said Lillian Santos, executive vice president of the American Cancer Society Puerto Rico.

CEO members meet annually to address complex workplace challenges. They also partner year-round with the Society to develop program measurements, assessments, and customized recommendations on how to improve employee health, control health care costs, and boost productivity.

Currently, there are 17 CEOs Against Cancer chapters across the United States. Five more chapters, including Puerto Rico, have been added this year.
