Banesco USA names new country manager for Puerto Rico operations

Martiza Abadía

Maritza Abadía, an experienced Puerto Rican banker, has been appointed country manager for Banesco USA’s Puerto Rico operations, Banesco USA President Rafael Saldaña announced.

Prior to assuming her new responsibilities with Banesco USA, Abadía occupied several key posts in recognized financial institutions, such as Citibank, where until recently she was director of corporate banking. She is a graduate of the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus, and has a master’s degree in Business Administration from the UPR, Río Piedras Campus. She is also a Certified Public Accountant.

Abadía’s priorities in her new position will be to expand Banesco USA’s presence in the Puerto Rican market.

“Banesco is proud to welcome [Maritza] Abadía, a distinguished professional in Puerto Rico’s banking industry, as our new Country Manager for Puerto Rico,” said Saldaña, also originally from Puerto Rico. “We’re sure her experience and knowledge of the market, along with the quality of the executive staff she will lead, will provide our Puerto Rico operations the vital direction it needs to contribute to the ongoing development of a market highly regarded by Banesco.”

Banesco is an integrated financial service institution with $700 million in total assets at present. Banesco USA has offices in Coral Gables, Florida and Puerto Rico, where it opened its first branch in 2011.
