Center for Investigative Journalism lands $100K grant

The Center for Investigative Journalism has received a $100,000 grant from the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, which it will use to continue expanding its staff and scope, co-founder Omaya Sosa confirmed to News is my Business.

The money awarded to the nonprofit organization will go toward hiring “permanent core staff to produce high impact investigations and in-depth reporting,” the Oklahoma based Foundation said upon announcing the award.

“We submitted a proposal to continue growing and further institutionalize the center no only in terms of activity, but to reach the U.S. and other markets,” Sosa said. “This may possibly be the first time the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation approves a grant to an organization outside the U.S. mainland.”

The three-year-old Centro de Periodismo Investigativo, as the Center is known in Spanish, has produced countless in-depth research reports and news stories that have been picked up by local and off-island news organizations. The organization is a member of the Investigative News Network.
