Dish Puerto Rico adds HD channels, ‘Hopper’ service

The recently added HD channels, including HBO Latino, Hallmark Movie Channel, DIY, Style, Encore, and H2 (History International), drive the cable and satellite provider’s lineup to more than 100 HD channels, that also include ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.

Dish Puerto Rico announced the addition of 19 new HD channels to its programming, as well as its Hopper Whole Home DVR System and Blockbuster@Home services, which became available Wednesday.

“Dish continues to innovate with technology like the Hopper, bringing new ideas to deliver a better experience to TV viewers. HD is the way of the future and Dish is at the forefront in services and value proposition. We now offer more than 100 HD channels, the most HD channels than any other provider,” Reynaldo Pagani, Dish Puerto Rico’s newly appointed country manager.

The recently added HD channels, including HBO Latino, Hallmark Movie Channel, DIY, Style, Encore, and H2 (History International), drive the cable and satellite provider’s lineup to more than 100 HD channels, that also include ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX.

Meanwhile, its Hopper Whole-Home DVR System — considered the most advanced DVR in the paid TV market — features three satellite-TV tuners and a two-terabyte hard drive that stores up to 2,000 hours of video. Accompanied by small, so-called “Joey” units for second, third, and fourth-room viewing, the Hopper enables customers to pause live TV in one room and continue watching in another room.

The other new service, Blockbuster@Home, gives customers access to more than 100,000 movies, TV shows including new releases and Blu-Ray, and more than 3,000 video game titles by mail. The feature also allows customers connected to the Internet access to movies streaming from any Hopper-connected TV or from smartphones and tablets enabled with the “TV Everywhere” technology.

With the appointment of Pagani — a seasoned marketing manager with previous experience in Miller Coors, Gatorade, Pepsi and Procter & Gamble Dish — as Puerto Rico’s first country manager, the company is betting on the importance of the local market as it continues its local growth, the company said in a statement released Wednesday.

Dish has more than 80 independent businesses that offer retail service islandwide.

This is great news! I’ve never been to PR before, but I knew it was only a matter of time until the Hopper started catching on internationally. I got selected by DISH to do an employee beta-test for the Hopper, and although it didn’t have all of its current features at the outset, the latest software pushes have made it truly the most innovative DVR in the industry. I like the 2,000 hours of recording space, and my wife definitely likes the PrimeTime Anytime feature, which automatically records every PT show on all four major networks! Bienvenidos a Hopper Puerto Rico!
