Ford extends ‘green’ grants program application deadline

Waldo Galán, regional director for Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and Central America Ford International Business Development leads last year's environmental awards ceremony.

Ford Motor Company announced Wednesday it will extend the deadline to turn in proposals for its Conservation & Environmental Grants program to April 13, giving interested groups and organizations more time to work on their applications. The company will bestow $40,000 in grant funding to winning nonprofits.

Minnette Vélez, Public Affairs Manager for the Caribbean and Central America region of Ford International Business, said the decision to push back the date from the original Mar. 23 deadline responds to the company’s prior decision to require proposals during the first half of the year, rather than the latter half, as previously done.

Last year, Ford split $40,000 among 10 nonprofits, including the Botijas I Community School in Orocovis, the Agriculture Club at the Rafael Martínez Nadal school in Guaynabo, the San Salvador Organized Community, the Future Farmers of America, the Agricultural Education students of the Manuel Mendía Moret School in Patillas, Silent Grace, the Santa Ana Environmental Center, and the Paz de Cristo Home.
