Claro Puerto Rico announced Thursday the start of its smartphone Trade-in program, which initially will allow iPhone users to exchange their current devices for newer models.

Claro will accept iPhones from AT&T and T-Mobile clients, as well as its own, the company said.

Furthermore, clients will be able to exchange their iPhones for iPhone 5s or 5c devices, as well as any smartphone in Claro’s portfolio.

“Technology moves precipitously in this industry and many of our customers want to always have the latest equipment,” said Claro President Enrique Ortiz de Montellano. “With the new Trade-In program we make it easy by giving customers credit for their current devices. It’s an excellent alternative for many of our existing customers and those who want to sign up with Claro.”

Interested customers can start the transaction online, through claropr.com, where they can click on the “Trade-in” tab to find out the value of their equipment. Next, they would need to go to a Claro store or participating dealer to complete the transaction. Equipment must be free of SIM and SD cards and personal information, Claro said.

Claro will accept equipment from other providers on trade-in, but the customers must end their contract or service first.
