Local telecom provider Optivon deploys large-scale Ethernet network

Guaynabo-based Optivon, dedicated to providing managed information technology and telecommunications services has partnered with North Carolina’s solutions provider Overture Networks to launch the island’s first mid-band metropolitan area Ethernet network designed to deliver high-bandwidth Ethernet and direct Internet access to areas throughout the island.

The deployment is part of a $5 million investment that Optivon is making in network infrastructure upgrades and enhancements to its Puerto Rico service, Optivon President Luis G. Romero said recently.

The company, a Competitive Local Exchange Carrier in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, will be able to offer speedier, less expensive, commercial quality access to the Internet from anywhere on the island through its copper-wire infrastructure, Romero noted.

“The debut of Puerto Rico’s first mid-band Metro Ethernet network is a milestone for Optivon and our customers alike,” said Romero. “The demand for dependable, ubiquitous, 24/7 access to the high-speed, high-bandwidth Ethernet service needed to power today’s always-connected lifestyle is continuing to accelerate.”

With Overture’s world-class technologies, we’re better able to address that growing demand and deliver the high-quality service our customers have come to expect, no matter where they are within our network,” he noted.

In business since 1998, San Juan-based Optivon provides wireless and other telecommunications services in throughout the U.S. mainland and Latin America. Since 2003, the company has been developing new Voice over Internet Protocol-enabled hosted communications services to businesses.

“We are delighted to add Optivon to our fast-growing global list of satisfied customers and partners,” said Kevin Sheehan, president of North Carolina-based Overture Networks. “Overture has a comprehensive portfolio of creative next-generation, market-proven solutions. By deploying these award winning products, providers like Optivon are maximizing operational efficiency and service quality while still cost-effectively meeting or exceeding customer requirements.”
