Microsoft Puerto Rico gets new GM

Marco Casarín-Junco

Software giant Microsoft is breaking in a new general manager for its Puerto Rico and regional operations, Marco Casarín-Junco, who is taking over the post after acting as commercial director for Microsoft Mexico.

Casarín-Junco succeeds Cleber Voelzke, who returned to his native Brazil after heading the local operations since August 2009. Published reports in Brazil point to the fact that Voelzke left Microsoft altogether, after several decades with the company.

The newly appointed executive takes Microsoft’s local helm looking to set off a new stage for the company, “aiming to achieve further growth and increase business activity to further develop programs that will enable customers to reach their full potential,” the company said in a brief statement issued Tuesday.

In his previous role, Casarín-Junco led a team of more than 100 people offering product sales and services to Mexico’s private, public and communication sectors, according to his LinkedIn profile. He has more than 15 years of experience in high technology sales leadership, marketing, channel development, software technology and people management.

Upon taking over the Puerto Rico business, Casarín-Junco will be responsible for “strengthening its local ecosystem of customers and partners,” Microsoft said.

He will be meeting with members of the local media for the first time Thursday to discuss his plans and vision for the operation.
