Most banks closed on Memorial Day, BBVA operating half-day

The majority of Puerto Rico’s banks will remain closed today, in observance of Memorial Day, resuming operations Tuesday.

Santander de Puerto Rico — along with subsidiaries Santander Securities, Santander Asset Management and Santander Insurance — Scotiabank, and R-G will not open its branches, administrative offices or subsidiaries for business today, as most banks on the island.

One exception, however, is BBVA, which will open 14 branches located at malls throughout the island, for several hours. BBVA branches located at Plaza Centro in Caguas, Cayey, Country Club, Galeria del Norte in Hatillo, Guayama, Juana Díaz, Levittown, Los Colobos, Mayagüez Mall, Plaza del Caribe, Plaza Escorial, San Patricio Plaza and Santa Maria in Guaynabo will open from 9 a.m. to noon. The Plaza las Américas location will operate from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

The BBVA Mortgage phone lines will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to handle loan-related matters. BBVA’s Direct Marketing Center will also operate during the same schedule to process personal loan and credit card applications, as will the bank’s telephone customer service line. Auto Crédito Retail BBVA, the division that handles motor vehicle financing plans, will operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
