PetSmart opens 5th island location in Carolina

Pets and their owners will have a full day of special activities at the new Carolina PetSmart location Saturday.

Pet specialty retailer PetSmart will mark the opening of its fifth store in Puerto Rico, located at Plaza Escorial in Carolina, with a full day of events starting at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The new store spans more than 16,500 square feet and employs 28 people. It joins locations in Señorial Plaza in Río Piedras, Plaza Río Hondo in Bayamón, San Patricio Plaza in Guaynabo and Plaza Centro in Caguas.

During the Carolina grand opening event, the retailer will extend special offers, such as free photo buttons, orientation about grooming services, discount coupons, giveaways, sweepstakes, music and other surprises. There will be two dog trick training contests, at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., when guests will demonstrate their abilities and win prizes. In addition, the first 50 people to arrive at the store will receive PetSmart gift cards valued at between $5 and $50.

The store will have dogs and cats available for adoption through a joint effort between PetSmart Charities, El Faro de los Animales and Save-a-Gato Foundation.
