The first 6,000 square-foot Famous Dave’s eatery will open in Carolina in April.

The Famous Dave’s BBQ concept, which features a menu of barbequed and grilled meats, a large selection of salads, side items and sandwiches, as well as desserts, will open its first location in Puerto Rico at the Escorial Shopping Center in Carolina, franchise holder Jorge Colón-Gerena confirmed Monday.

The 6,000 square-foot restaurant will open in April, representing the completion of a $2 million investment by Colón-Gerena’s company, which also operates Wendy’s, Applebee’s, Sizzler and Longhorn Steakhouse, and plans to bring Red Lobster and Olive Garden later this year.

It was about a year ago that Colón-Gerena announced plans to include Famous Dave’s in its mix.

“Famous Dave’s is the best franchise in the BBQ segment, winners of the ‘hottest concepts’ from Nations Restaurant News magazine and has more than 500 food competition awards in this category,” said Abelardo Díaz, CEO of Famous Dave’s Puerto Rico.

“We’re very excited to launch in Puerto Rico and we’re sure it will become one of the favorite restaurants of the Puerto Rican public,” he said.

Famous Dave’s barbeque features hickory smoked St. Louis-style spare ribs, Texas beef brisket, Georgia chopped pork and a variety of Famous Dave’s signature BBQ sauces that represent various U.S. mainland regional barbeque flavors. Its menu also includes barbeque and country roasted chicken, BBQ sandwiches, burgers and salads, as well as homemade side dishes and home-style desserts.

“Famous Dave’s guests will be able to enjoy a fun concept and first-class BBQ food choices, said Steve Pierce, regional director of the Famous Dave’s franchise. “We’re so glad that Famous Dave’s is already a reality in the Puerto Rican market and we guarantee that our customers will have a first-class experience.”
