T-Mobile opening stores early for iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 hits T-Mobile stores this Friday.

In anticipation of iPhone 5’s arrival, T-Mobile Puerto Rico will open its stores early, at 7 a.m., this Friday to begin selling the device it has been selling to customers through pre-orders since last week.

“We’re ready. We have enough inventory and great enthusiasm to begin selling the iPhone 5 to our existing and new customers,” said Wency Baerga, vice president of sales of T-Mobile Puerto Rico. “The pre-order period has exceeded our expectations. Our sales and customer service staff are trained and prepared for this launch we know will break records in T-Mobile Puerto Rico.”

T-Mobile will sell the iPhone 5 for $99 with a two-year contract. Because T-Mobile is the last of the major U.S. carriers to add the iPhone to its lineup, it is being aggressive with its monthly plans, which start at $70 a month for unlimited voice and data. On the island, T-Mobile is throwing in an additional incentive to attract customers by offering them a $104 rebate for migrating their current numbers from other providers.

T-Mobile will back this weekend’s iPhone blitz with an advertising and publicity campaign.
