Walmart benefits Hogar Teresa Toda with $10K grant

Hogar Teresa Toda, a nonprofit organization that provides shelter and services to girls aged six to 17, is getting a $10,000 grant from retailer Walmart, which made the announcement as part of its “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign.

“In times of personal crisis, we all look for support to help us return to a healthy situation,” said Julie Gehrki, senior director at the Walmart Foundation. “The organizations we’re helping today provide not only material assistance, but also dignity to help women, men and children move toward brighter, happier futures.”

The Canóvanas organization is one of 145 organizations in all 50 states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico that will split $1.5 million this Christmas to keep their efforts going.

Walmart’s call for nominations for its “12 Days of Giving” Facebook campaign that opened a month ago resulted in more than 5,400 nominations from Facebook users who shared photos and short descriptions of a nonprofit’s impact in its local community.
